With brilliant ease, the play reveals the absurdly comic sides of greed and selfishness – while simultaneously showing how valuable familial bonds and genuine human closeness are. A timeless theater experience full of wit, charm, and pointed social criticism, which celebrated its triumphant premiere in 1668 at the Théâtre du Palais-Royal in Paris.
