Try ök-aut – Experimenting for an Ecological Future brings art, research, and everyday life together in Reininghaus, Graz. In the Tennenmälzerei at UNESCO-Esplanade 9, works are being created that demonstrate how clay, sawdust, mycelium, and 3D-printable biomaterials can be envisioned as the materials of tomorrow. Five artists (Beate Gatschelofer, Ina Loitzl, Barbara Schmid, Dominik Einfalt & Jan Contoala) and a class from AHS Reininghaus are collaborating with researchers from TU Graz on forms, surfaces, and applications that not only showcase sustainability but embody it in their very creation. The exhibition builds on WASTE ART STYRIA and transforms the location into an open laboratory for art, design, science, and education. Between workbenches, discussions, and exhibitions, a vision of a resource-conserving future emerges that remains approachable while thinking far ahead. Those interested in sustainable materials, contemporary art, and new ideas from Styria will find not ready-made answers here, but visible attempts that resonate with the neighborhood. Try ök-aut is thus an exhibition for Graz that takes regional collaboration seriously and demonstrates how the future is built from small steps, smart materials, and shared curiosity. An exhibition by the Styrian Cultural Initiative in cooperation with the Graz Reininghaus Neighborhood Association. ÖSW Wohnbauträger provides the facilities.
From June 12 to July 10, 2026, this working process will be visible in the Graz experience region as part of the cultural life. The paths between school, university, and studio are short here: this makes Reininghaus in Graz a place where Styria sees art not as decoration but as a tool for tomorrow.
