Icon painting for beginners and advanced learners

Away from the hustle and bustle, we want to create an atmosphere of deepening and identification with the more than 1500-year-old tradition. The icon is the Holy Scripture represented in colors and forms. The icon is a sacred image that shows us a spiritual, transcendental world. It is created through the deep meditation of the spirit. Icon painting is both a spiritual experience and a craft. The goal of the course is for each participant to learn the individual steps to create an icon on their own workpiece. At the end of the course, you can take your finished icon home with you. The blessing of the icons concludes the course.

Instructors:
› Vesna Deskoska, restorer and icon painter, has been working as a freelance artist in Vienna since 2009.
› Mag.a Silva Bozinova, born in Bulgaria, studied sociology and political science in Sofia, and from 1976 to 1983 studied art history in Skopje, Macedonia. She has been living in Austria with her family since 1989. She has been working as a freelance artist and icon painter since 1991.

Together, they teach the art of icon painting in several educational institutions in Austria, Germany, and Slovenia.

Material costs: approximately €70 for one icon (a primed panel, gold, paint, varnish)

Note: All materials (including a prepared primed wooden panel) will be provided by the course instructor. Materials that you may have at home (powdered colors, primed boards, brushes, watercolor brushes N4/N1/N0, palette) are welcome to be brought along.

Participants have the opportunity to stay and eat at a local guesthouse. We are happy to assist you with accommodation reservations.
