Haydn's "Nicholas Mass," composed in 1772 in Eisenstadt, combines festive brilliance with heartfelt piety. Originally composed for the feast of Saint Nicholas, it unfolds a bright, optimistic mood. Haydn allows the choir, soloists, and orchestra to shine in balanced splendor.
In the parish church of Höflein, the work will be performed as a ceremonial musical greeting for the new organ, inaugurated in 2025 – a symbol of renewal, richness of sound, and spiritual connection. Thus, Haydn's music intertwines with the new instrument and, with the participation of the vibrant ensembles from Haydn's birthplace, becomes an expression of a living musical tradition.
