Crime Evening: Author Reading with Nina Jelinek

"Paradise Calls – Undercover in the Vienna Red-Light District" is a suspense novel featuring an amateur investigator. The story is set in Vienna in the early 2000s, at a time when people had become accustomed to being reachable at all times via their mobile phones, yet smartphones had not yet emerged. It takes place in a city where various criminal environments and mafia circles coexist, and over a million people from around the world live together.

The main character is Laura, a journalism student who wants to not only study the method of undercover research theoretically but also try it out for herself. She ends up in a call center, where she connects prostitutes, and when one of them is murdered, she, along with the pimp Andi, tries to find the killer—of course, without police involvement.

The author Nina Jelinek will read excerpts from her new work. Some pieces, played on instruments in the Mechanical Sound Factory in between, will transport the listeners to Vienna and allow them to fully immerse themselves in the story.
