The distance of 11,000 kilometers and 20 years is bridged by alto saxophonist Darius Jones from Norfolk/Brooklyn and guitarist Otomo Yoshihide from Yokohama/Fukushima in this premiere. The Man’ish e’Boi, who sees his music as a “confrontation against apathy and ego,” brings along his longtime drummer Gerald Cleaver, who is a noise-affine “politician of musical powerlessness,” along with his former “Ground Zero” bandmate, jazz drummer Yasuhiro Yoshigaki. Bassist Nick Dunston completes this quintet, which thrives on the superpower of surprise, in the spirit of Sun Ra, where “only the impossible happens.”
