Lecture by Odile Tevie at the Textile Center Haslach

Odile Tevie from the local cultural center Nubuke Foundation in Accra, Ghana, will be in Haslach for two weeks in July 2026 as part of a Dialogue Residency to get to know the structure of the Textile Center Haslach and engage in exchange.

Ghana is one of the countries most affected by the mountains of second-hand clothing from Western countries. Entire regions are devastated by gigantic piles of textiles. Despite and simultaneously because of these overwhelming problems, a unique art scene has developed in Ghana that exclusively uses second-hand clothing as a starting point for artistic works.

In her lecture, Odile reports on the situation in her country and presents many examples of exciting artists who offer interesting statements and artistic positions that are often barely recognized in Europe.
