Christmas Magic in Monschau – romantic market opens on November 27

When the half-timbered houses shine in warm light and the scent of gingerbread, mulled wine, and spices wafts through the alleys, it’s Christmas market time in Monschau again. The atmospheric and romantic market in the most beautiful small town in Germany will once again open its gates on all four Advent weekends (from November 27 to December 20) – Fridays and Saturdays from 11 AM to 9 PM, Sundays from 11 AM to 8 PM. 

Around 35 festively decorated booths invite visitors to stroll and linger at various locations throughout the town. Guests can expect not only at the market but also in the boutiques and shops of the historic town a variety of handcrafted gift ideas, decorations, jewelry, treats, and regional specialties, such as Monschau mustard, gingerbread, Dütchen, or Vennbrocken. This offering is complemented by additional market stalls in the market hall, where the association of “House Crib Builders Monschauer Land” will also present its artistically designed cribs, at the Rur bridge, in the “House at the Tower” on Stadtstraße. 

Another highlight is the crafts and artisan markets in the cloister of the Augustinian monastery on the weekends of December 4-6 and December 11-13, where about 10 additional stalls from various artisans will present their handmade products.

There is also plenty to entertain young visitors: Every Saturday, St. Nicholas walks through the Christmas market distributing gifts. The Elf Workshop at Kolpinghaus am Stehlings invites children to craft with natural materials on Saturdays from 11 AM to 5 PM – supervised by Andrea Pauls (Children's Nature Workshop Dandelion). The historic carousel at Vincent-Weber-Platz brings shining eyes to children. At the Experience Museum Learning Place Nature at the glassworks in Burgau, children can participate in a “Dwarf Rally.”

Musically, the market will be accompanied by festive live music in the evenings: On Saturdays and Sundays, music clubs or tower trumpeters will create a festive atmosphere at the market.

To ensure a relaxed arrival, a Park & Ride system is available: On all event days, shuttle buses run regularly from Imgenbroich Bushof (Fridays and Saturdays between 9:30 AM and 9 PM; Sundays from 9:30 AM to 8 PM) and from Höfen National Park Gate (Fridays from 2 PM to 9 PM, Saturdays 10 AM to 9 PM, Sundays 10 AM to 8 PM), and from School Center Haag (Fridays from 10 AM to 9 PM, Saturdays 10 AM to 9 PM, Sundays 10 AM to 8 PM).
