Heated floors, an elaborate bathing facility, and room for several families in approximately 66 rooms – the dimensions and amenities of Villa Otrang are impressive. Roman settlers lived on the estate as early as the 1st century AD, which also included a cult site with two temples and burial fields. The villa was inhabited until the end of the 4th century, when it was destroyed by the Franks. It is one of the largest Roman villas in the Rhineland and simultaneously one of the best-preserved: in four rooms of the almost square manor house, the wonderful mosaic floors could be uncovered, which were stumbled upon during farming activities. From 1838, Frederick William IV of Prussia supported the excavations. Valuable finds, such as the torso of the goddess Isis-Fortuna, can now be found in the Rheinisches Landesmuseum in Trier.
