Fortress Tours Landau – Part 3: Experience the Fortress City – Lunettes & Outworks
In the third part of the fortress tours, you will dive deep into the history of the fortress city of Landau. The focus of this tour is on the historic outworks and lunettes, which impressively illustrate the strategic importance Landau once had as a fortified city.
Learn more about the sieges of the city and how the people of Landau experienced these tumultuous and often difficult times. The tour combines exciting historical backgrounds with vivid insights directly on site.
During this themed tour, you will discover the remaining remnants of the southern outworks of the fortress city of Landau. Most of these structures are no longer visible today – with the exception of Work No. 44 and Lunette No. 41 – but their original locations are well known. In the area of the current swan pond, traces of former outworks can also still be found.
The highlight of the tour along the southern outer works is the visit to Lunette 41, which has been excavated by the fortress construction association, featuring its impressive underground facilities.
