The Geotope Day invites you to get to the bottom of the local fossils. The finds in the Stöffel Park deposit open a large window into the past.
Interested visitors are invited to take a look through it on Sunday, September 20, 2026 at 2 pm.
Excursion to another time
Dr. Michael Wuttke will take you on an exciting journey into the past. The palaeontologist knows the Stöffel like the back of his hand. He has been in charge of the fossil site from the very beginning - and he knows how to tell you about it vividly.
All Tertiary, or what?
The Stöffel fossil deposit is a unique testimony to the history of the earth and was formed around 25 million years ago. Whether you call this time period Tertiary or Paleogene, or more precisely Oligocene... it doesn't matter. One thing is certain: The foundations of today's ecosystems were laid back then. Exciting stories about the “fossils” and unexpected encounters with specimens that you wouldn't expect to find here in the Westerwald are guaranteed.
