A stroll through 1,300 years of Altenkirchen in the Westerwald
We will explore together the dynamic changes of the district town of Altenkirchen – from a small medieval settlement with a wooden church to today’s central town. The appearance of the city has changed multiple times. And the residents of Altenkirchen have not let themselves be defeated despite severe hardships. Why was Altenkirchen actually established here? Where have the stones from the castle gone? And the Emperor's Fountain? Why was the railway both a curse and a blessing? We will seek answers to these and many other questions, from the castle square to the train station. And we will gain many unexpected insights into an old town in new attire.
