The Ulmener Maar is the youngest maar of the Eifel region. The well-preserved tuff walls, the clear water of the maar lake, and the scientific insights into the volcanic history of the small town of Ulmen and its two maars, which are connected by a historic double tunnel to ensure the mill economy during dry times, are impressive. Stories and legends tell of lake monsters, knights and crusaders, coins and witches.
