The Pulvermaar is the storybook maar of the Eifel, the largest "eye of the Eifel." Geomorphologically well-preserved, with steep inner slopes and a flat outwardly spreading ejecta ring of loose material (tephra), almost circular maar lake at a unique depth of over 70 meters. The two criteria for the scientific application of the term "maar" - formation through typical maar volcanism and crater depth into the standing groundwater - are exemplarily fulfilled here.
A guided tour will describe the volcanic origin, as well as the landscape change around the maar over the last 150 years. (not wheelchair accessible, sturdy footwear required)
