The Immerather Maar is one of the lesser-known maars and is somewhat hidden away from the settlement. As with other maars, the lake was drained (in 1750) by deepening the small brook to use the fertile maar soil for agricultural purposes. During World War I, the drainage was no longer maintained, and the lake filled up with water again.
