It is "the other city tour" to one of the darkest parts of the city's history: Wetzlar was a center of highly advanced military technology during World War II. When the bombing war also reached Wetzlar, the industrial companies moved their production "underground": prisoners of war and local miners blasted huge tunnel systems into the surrounding hills and mountains, where then opticians and mechanics, along with forced laborers, maintained the war-important productions.
But the local population also found shelter here from the bombing raids. The camouflage was so perfect that the Americans only discovered what they had overlooked until their invasion of the city.
The tunnel tour is suitable for young people aged 14 and older, accompanied by adults.
