Experience the largest operational technology museum

Experience the vibrant past in our historic watermill Birgel! On selected days, the technology museum comes to life and takes you on a journey back in time when mills, stationary engines, and steam engines determined the rhythm of progress.

Let yourself be inspired by the impressive diversity of our fully functional machines: From the majestic steam engine, built in 1917, to the mechanical oil press that has been pressing fresh oil for over 130 years, to the three-story grain mill that forms the heart of the mill. Every detail tells a story of craftsmanship, ingenuity, and hard work.

All attractions can be admired in full operation

Steam Engine
Admire the fully operational steam engine, built in 1917. The machine, with 80KW power, was taken apart by us and rebuilt in our mill.

Mechanical Oil Press
For over 130 years, this oil press has been producing freshly pressed oil. In the production of rapeseed oil, it achieves a capacity of 300 liters per day.

Milling Wheel
Alongside the oil press and the steam engine, the milling wheel is another historical tool that can be admired in full operation.

Mechanical Lathe
Our lathe, powered by the steam engine, is suitable for milling, drilling, and machining metal.

Mustard Mill
In our mustard mill, powered by a 100-year-old Peugeot engine, we still produce our legendary mill mustard today.

Grain Mill
Another highlight of our historic watermill is the grain mill. It extends over three floors. Admire the process of flour production from start to finish.

Water Turbine
The water turbine is the heart of the grain mill. With 25HP, it ensures that up to 70 quintals of flour can be ground in one milling cycle.

Crushing Machine
In our crushing machine, grains are ground into grist and prepared for further processing.

Diesel Generators & Engines
Many of our attractions are powered by old generators and engines, providing an impression of how manual labor was replaced by machines.

Brewing House
In our brewing house, you will learn how monks brewed beer over 150 years ago. Today, we produce our delicious mill beer here.

Distillery
In the wood-fired distillery, our delicious mill schnapps is distilled using specially produced mash.

Children's Program: Baking Bread
We will show you how to bake traditional bread in a wood oven. Of course, with our own mill flour.

Children's Program: Making Muesli
Together, you will make your own muesli with us. Oats are smashed by hand and then mixed with other ingredients.

Children's Program: Making Mustard
We will make your own mustard together, just as you like it, using our mill ingredients.

Children's Program: Pressing Oil
No heavy equipment is needed to press oil. We will show you how to prepare your own cooking oil with just a few simple steps.
