Why does Rauhbein play Irish music with German lyrics? Who is Henry? And why is this Henry such a great friend of the Irish landscape, culture, and music? Growing up in modest circumstances as the son of a working-class family, Henry gets by with various jobs. He knows what it means to not be able to make big leaps and to work hard for his bread.

After a dramatic workplace accident, he loses his means of livelihood. He will never be able to work as he did before. But giving up is not his thing: He hops on his motorcycle and sets off on a journey to Ireland. His luggage: 3 T-shirts, 3 pairs of underwear, 3 pairs of socks, his toothbrush, and his guitar. In the streets of Dublin, he makes his way as a singer-songwriter in pubs and bars, getting to know the land and its people: rough characters with heart. People like him. What starts as a self-rescue trip turns into three intense years that shape him.

With renewed strength and a suitcase full of inspiration, he returns to Germany to tell his story through his songs. These songs have been written by life: songs that convey courage and joy of life, especially where you least expect it, in difficult times. No matter what the songs are about—whether it’s the obstacles life throws in our way, navigating cliffs, highs and lows, joy or sorrow—they all ultimately tell of a love for life and the all-encompassing power of positive energy.

With a lot of irony and the necessary wink, the "Rauhbein" pokes fun at his own life and sings about his adventurous experiences with love, desire, and suffering. Rauhbein is the tough guy shaped by life, with a soft core and a heart in the right place.

The music of the now-formed band "Rauhbein" reflects Henry’s essence. The powerful guitars and loud drums showcase his rough and tough side, but the melancholic-romantic also has its place with strings and accordion. What makes this music truly special is Henry’s unique voice. In it, you can hear the life that hasn’t always been easy for him. His timbre is warm and robust like a 20-year-old single malt, and as rugged and weathered as the ancient oaks of the Highlands.
