The Little Prince

"You can only see well with the heart; what is essential is invisible to the eyes," or "You are forever responsible for what you have tamed." Those who have read The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry carry many of its wise and poetic lines with them throughout their lives – a "education of the heart" for young and old alike. The story of the little prince, who travels from planet to planet and experiences many curious encounters, alongside the pilot who is searching for his inner child, has become a classic of children's and youth literature. No less a theater than La Scala in Milan commissioned the creation of the family opera Il piccolo principe. The Italian composer Pierangelo Valtinoni transformed the tale in 2022 into a work lasting just under an hour, combining the magic and humor of the story with romantic music reminiscent of Puccini, while emphasizing the childlike view of the world. In Vienna, the American-Austrian director Louisa Muller presents the opera in a lovingly crafted and imaginative production.
