Vivaldi's Four Seasons combined with Piazzolla's Seasons of Buenos Aires (arranged for bandoneon, violin, and orchestra), as well as other violin concertos by Vivaldi and selected "Porteño" movements by Piazzolla.
About the Work
Astor Piazzolla was already an outstanding bandoneon player and bandleader as a young musician. He received a crucial impetus as a composer from Nadia Boulanger, who encouraged him to focus on tango. His Seasons of Buenos Aires (from 1965) reference Antonio Vivaldi but differ significantly: While Vivaldi composed multi-movement, pictorial music with a central solo violin, Piazzolla's works are single-movement, rhythmically driven, and more strongly inspired by tango.
