Christmas Concert of the Vienna Boys' Choir

As "ambassadors" of Austria and its musical culture, the Vienna Boys' Choir is known worldwide. Their repertoire ranges from folk songs to the Viennese waltz to the most delicate art songs. The probably most famous boys' choir in the world has a long tradition: since the thirteenth century, boys have been singing in the Vienna Court Chapel. In 1498, Maximilian I moved his court along with the chapel to Vienna. Musicians such as Mozart, Salieri, and Bruckner worked at the Viennese court; Joseph Haydn, Michael Haydn, and Franz Schubert sang as boys in the court music chapel. Today, there are around 100 Vienna Boys' Choir members aged between 9 and 14, divided into four choirs. Together, the choirs give 300 concerts a year to nearly half a million spectators around the world.
