The central importance of songs in Schubert's work is well known. In contrast, Mendelssohn's songs tend to be overshadowed by the presence of his symphonies or chamber music. And of course, we want to place the Mendelssohn siblings side by side. Fanny Hensel, who had to remain in the background during her lifetime as a woman, even publishing under her brother's name at times, can finally be recognized for her significance. Her songs are not only expressions of emotional depth and artistic skill but also mirrors of her personal struggles between individual freedom and the constraints of societal norms.
