Immerse yourself in a piece of the city’s history, enjoy
the atmosphere of this space, and discover the murals.
Lightly painted walls and tall, uncolored windows in the nave, as well as
tall rectangular windows in the north and south chapels in front of the choir, lend the interior of the church a sense of height and luminosity. A harmonious net vault, whose parallel ribs are painted reddish-brown, connects the walls of the nave. A smaller keystone in front of the choir bears the coat of arms of a secular patron of the church, Margrave Rudolf IV of Rötteln-Sausenberg, who was also Count of Neuenburg (1441–1487). The large keystone depicts the Archangel Michael, the heavenly patron saint of the church. Today, the interior of the church once again corresponds to the basic form it had retained until around 1480 under Margrave Rudolf IV.
