Excursion in Stöffel Park with biologist Hendrik Geyer
Where mixed beech forests once covered a basalt hilltop, mining has left behind
barren ruderal areas that create a special climate.
This heat island, Stöffel Park, is colonised by specialised species
that are waiting to be discovered.
An exciting insight into the collection of biodiversity data and the
expansion of species knowledge awaits nature lovers of all ages.
Hendrik Geyer, biologist at the Nature and Environment Foundation RLP, wrote his
master's thesis on the effects of extensive mowing and grazing on
spider diversity. He has excellent species knowledge,
especially in the areas of spiders, grasshoppers, beetles and
birds.
