Wetzlar 1816: Court Counsellor Charlotte Kestner, née Buff, revisits her hometown and the Teutonic Order Court during a trip from Hanover to Alsace after a long time, where she spent a happy childhood and youth. In this idyllic court, she also met the law intern Johann Wolfgang Goethe 44 years ago.
Much time has passed since summer 1772. Charlotte has married the Legation Secretary Kestner, moved to Hanover, had twelve children, and has been widowed for 16 years. And now – as if time stood still – she encounters herself: In the Teutonic Order Court, she sees herself as a young girl, dressed in a white gown with pale red ribbons, going to a ball in Volpertshausen and just cutting dinner for her younger siblings.
Is she seeing correctly? Is the young Goethe about to storm up the court driveway? Is their love story starting all over again? And what would she do differently then?
The new costume city tour "The Double Charlottchen" is about old and new loves, right and wrong decisions, and the question of whether a bird in the hand is better than a poet on the roof ...
