The Amüseum at the waterfall becomes the venue for the special exhibition Molecular Kinship by the Trier artist Andreas Hamacher.
In the historic rooms of the Municipal Museum, a dialogue emerges between modern steel art and ancient machinery technology.

Industrial heritage meets organic form
Hamacher uses used steel pipes for his series – relics from technical everyday life that once transported liquids or gases through industrial systems. By cutting, pressing, and reshaping, he breaks the strict geometry of the material. New organic forms emerge that still hint at their industrial origin but unfold into a completely new, vibrant aesthetic. His series of so-called “Hapticons” explicitly invites “touching and understanding”: The tension between the harshly rejecting and the softly inviting nature of steel is immediately palpable through tactile experience.

The element iron
The title Molecular Kinship refers to the connecting element iron (Fe). Hamacher addresses its fascinating origin: as a component of meteorites, iron once arrived on Earth from the cosmos. Today, it shapes our modern life as steel, influences architecture, and is even found as a vital building block in our own bodies. Each of Hamacher's sculptures thus carries prehistoric molecules and connects the man-made with the universe.

About the artist
Andreas Hamacher (b. 1967) lives and works in his studio in the old dairy farm in Trier. He sees himself as a "sculptor" who takes away or reshapes the material rather than just assembling it. His work has been internationally recognized numerous times, including the Art Prize from the Independent Art Museum (IAM) in 2016. His artworks are regularly displayed in exhibitions across Europe – from London to Brussels to Luxembourg.

The exhibition can be visited until June 14, 2026, during the opening hours of the Amüseum from Sunday to Friday from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
