Guided tour of the monastery, founded in 1102, with its surrounding wall, church, Staufer round painting, and garden (duration: approx. 1 hour). Founded in 1102 as the burial place of the Staufer dynasty, the original monastery complex with its church, cloister, farm buildings, and monastery garden, surrounded by a completely preserved surrounding wall, is open to visitors.
The Staufer round picture in the chapter house impressively depicts the history of the Staufer dynasty on an area measuring 30 meters in length and 4.50 meters in height. In the monastery church, the Staufer tomb from 1475, erected in the central nave, commemorates the Staufers as founders of the monastery. The surrounding wall pillars are decorated with depictions of the most important Staufer rulers. In the 19th century, Lorch was rediscovered as a medieval monument. For many poets and artists, travelers, and spa guests, the monastery became a Staufer memorial whose fascination continues to this day.
