An evening that unites music and dance into a captivating whole: The Opera Ballet Vlaanderen presents three early works by Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, translating classical compositions into movement while connecting abstract concepts with vibrant storytelling.

In 1986, De Keersmaeker first engaged with Béla Bartók's String Quartet No. 4, creating a choreography that conquers the complex rhythms and harmonies of the piece in both a combative and playful manner. In 1992, she dedicated herself to Beethoven's Grosse Fuge, translating its counterpoints into physical form with powerful movement vocabulary. With Arnold Schönberg's Verklärte Nacht, she delved into a romance in 1995 that questions and reinterprets gender roles through duets and trios. Each of these works serves as a choreographic response to classical music, showcasing De Keersmaeker's unique sense of storytelling.

Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, a Flemish avant-garde icon and founder of the Compagnie Rosas, combines dance, music, and concept into rigorous, spatiotemporal structures – from Steve Reich to Johann Sebastian Bach, from opera to museum. The Opera Ballet Vlaanderen is the largest cultural institution in Flanders and positions itself as a driving force of the Flemish avant-garde – programmatically anchored in the blending of opera, ballet, and experimental creation.
