Whether it's baroque ballrooms, jazz, or rave: Benjamin Abel Meirhaeghe celebrates the body in motion, just as humanity has done for centuries!
In "Chapters of Celebration," Benjamin Abel Meirhaeghe invites choreographers Michele Rizzo, Cherish Menzo, Lasseindra Ninja, Iker Karrera, Jeremy Nedd, and Toni Jodar to a dance marathon performance, where six singing dancers explore the ecstasy of human communities. Meirhaeghe organizes the performance into chapters: each chapter is created by a different choreographer, and every movement, every dance is an act of liberation. Like archaeologists of joy, the artists dig for the lost jubilation, for rituals and collective ecstasy, to demonstrate that dancing, celebrating, and coming together is not only possible even in difficult times, but also an act of resistance against alienation and isolation. The chapters are embedded in compositions based on the "Folies d’Espagne" from the 15th century, weaving baroque, classical, and contemporary elements into a sparkling tapestry of sound.
Benjamin Abel Meirhaeghe is a Belgian performer and director, known for his contemporary style that combines visual art, music, and choreography. His works are often extravagant, delightfully bombastic, and always contrasted with sobriety, intimacy, and intuition.
