The Klangfabrik can only be visited with a guided tour. Duration of the tour is approximately 1 hour.

From November to April, the museum is closed to individual visitors.

In the "Mechanical Klangfabrik" museum, you will find curious musical instruments, pompous orchestrions, rattling barrel organs, delicate music boxes, elegant gramophones, original back pianos, lovingly crafted street organs, and much more. 150 exhibits from the Baroque period to the present convey nostalgia, fascinating technology, and excellent musical entertainment. They were collected by former Haslach weaving mill owner Erwin Rechberger and purchased in 2005 by the state of Upper Austria for the Mechanical Klangfabrik.
"How lovely it sounds, how beautiful it is" - these lines from Mozart's The Magic Flute also describe the surprising variety of these special automata. Once, they provided the appropriate music for all occasions - in salons, dance halls, coffee houses, taverns, at folk festivals, and fairs. To this day, they offer a feast for the ears and eyes and amaze with their sophisticated control using punched cards or music rolls. Set in atmospheric experience rooms and accompanied by the necessary additional information, visitors not only learn about the music history and technical details of these sounding wonders but can also immerse themselves in the moods and entertainment options of earlier times through playful quotes and selected musical samples. During a tour, the instruments are played, and their inner workings are demonstrated.
