From August 26 to 30, 2026, the pilgrimage church Maria Lebing in Hartberg will become the venue for LIED.Styria – The World in Songs. In five song evenings, a multifaceted musical panorama unfolds around the theme of "Homeland and Foreignness." The opening song evening of the new festival is dedicated to one of the most impressive works of the Romantic era: Franz Schubert's Winterreise. "I entered as a stranger, as a stranger I depart again" marks the beginning of an existential journey, characterized by uprooting and loneliness. Performing are Daniel Johannsen, tenor, and Sascha El Mouissi, piano, two internationally renowned artists who engage deeply with this song cycle and its interpretative depth, presenting it with a special sonic and artistic richness. A work introduction will be provided by Prof. Harald Haslmayr.
