Leadership: Home House with Bell Foundry

Starting May 2, the Heimathaus Braunau will reopen its doors to visitors. Guided tours will be offered from Tuesday to Saturday at 1:30 PM until the end of September. The meeting point is at the Bezirksmuseum Herzogsburg. Additional dates and group tours can be arranged by appointment.

Original from the 14th Century
The Gothic town of Braunau has much to offer, but one highlight is certainly the Heimathaus with its bell foundry. Upon entering the building, it almost feels as if the inhabitants have just stepped out for a moment. At any moment, one expects the craftsmen from around the end of the 14th century to return.

The bell foundry workshop from 1385 has been preserved in its original state, and the smoke kitchen with its massive chimney has remained unchanged since the building was constructed. As a Heimathaus, the building houses a wealth of extraordinary exhibits. Spanning three floors, the collection is a true treasure and wonder chamber of local history and cultural heritage of our city and the entire region.

Highlights in the Heimathaus
In the back building, there is a rural section that was designed around 1910 by the museum's founder and is particularly noteworthy for its authenticity. Here, visitors can discover a collection of original Innviertel farming tools such as ox goads, striking sticks, krickerls, and other curious instruments. Also noteworthy is the rich collection related to folk beliefs and superstitions, featuring a variety of precious exhibits from amulets to votive offerings.

Dedicated rooms are reserved for the museum's founder Hugo von Preen (1854–1941) and the prominent shipbuilding family Fink (in Braunau since 1782), and a cozy citizen's parlor recalls the urban life of bygone times.
