Commemoration of the Victims of War and National Socialism
With a commemorative event for the victims of war and National Socialism, the city of Braunau am Inn, the Association for Contemporary History, and the Mauthausen Committee Austria are making a statement against forgetting: On Friday, May 8 at 6 PM at the Memorial Stone in the Salzburg suburb. Writer and philosopher Karl-Markus Gauß will be a guest, and a subsequent film evening with a discussion will focus on his work.

Joint Commemoration and Remembrance
The commemorative event for the victims of war and National Socialism is held annually in Braunau around May 8, the day of the capitulation of Nazi Germany and thus the liberation from National Socialism. Karl-Markus Gauß and Braunau's mayor Johannes Waidbacher will speak, and the musical arrangement will be provided by the Democratic Choir Braunau. All interested parties are invited to participate, to pause together, and to remember. In case of bad weather, the commemorative event will take place at the Braunau Event Center.

Film Evening and Audience Discussion with Karl-Markus Gauß
Following the commemoration, the Association for Contemporary History Braunau invites you to a film evening. "Strolling is My Profession" by director Johannes Holzhausen will be shown, a cinematic portrait of Karl-Markus Gauß. The writer and philosopher, who lives in Salzburg, became known primarily for his literary travels to the minorities of Europe. The 2025 documentary presents a multifaceted portrait of an author for whom storytelling is always a struggle against forgetting. The film screening at the Diesel Cinema Braunau begins at 8 PM, followed by an audience discussion with Karl-Markus Gauß.
