Suddenly, he is confronted with death and tries to gain a "little hour" to seek a companion for his final journey. True to his previous way of life, he seeks out the wrong people, who cannot be of any help to him before God: his relatives and friends; he even wants to take his wealth along as a companion. Ultimately, he learns to understand what truly matters before God: faith and deeds! They are our companions before the face of God!
