Prometheus

In Prometheus, the Spanish choreographer Antonio Ruz connects one of the oldest myths of European cultural history with current questions of our time. Prometheus is the Titan who brings fire to humanity, a symbol of knowledge, art, and progress, and is punished for it. The starting point is Beethoven's famous ballet The Creatures of Prometheus (1801), created for the Vienna Hofburg Theatre.

Ruz relocates this story to our present: Prometheus becomes the creator who brings two artificial beings to life. In a world where technology and artificial intelligence are taking up more and more space, these beings learn through movement, music, and encounters what it means to be human: to feel, to take responsibility, to become part of a community. The choreographic journey leads from contemporary spaces into an archaic-organic world, where the body takes center stage.

Carried by the dancers of TANZ LINZ, Prometheus combines Beethoven's original music, interpreted by the Bruckner Orchestra Linz, with new soundscapes into a dance evening about creation, progress, and responsibility.
