Hermia is to marry a man she does not love. Her father even threatens her with "a convent or death"! In desperation, Hermia flees into the woods with her true love, Lysander. However, here, in the homeland of quarrelsome fairies, trolls, and a certain Puck, they become increasingly entangled in the whirlpool of their conflicting emotions. An amateur theater troupe rehearsing loudly for the upcoming wedding of the ruler adds to the confusion. When the day finally dawns, every pot finds its lid, every longing heart its great love, and every fear comes to an end. In Shakespeare's famous comedy, love is explored in all its facets, from romantic passion, jealousy, and despair, to the love of theater and the unbroken love of life. theaterSPECTACEL presents a fresh, dusted-off version that relocates the story to a "land above the Enns" (Upper Austria). It is an enjoyable play within a play, featuring identities, power dynamics, genders – and many emotions. The cast includes: Nora Dirisamer, Nancy Mensah-Offei, Sofie Pint, Matthias Hack, Harald Bodingbauer, Lisa Winkler, Alexander Knaipp, Maximilian Bendl, John F. Kutil, Wilfried Weilandt, Leo Schöllhuber, Fabian Raml, Gerhard Wipplinger, Diana Koch. Premiere on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, in the barn of the Wilhering Abbey. Further performances: July 17 – 18 / July 21 – 25 / July 28 – August 1 / August 5 – 7, 2026, each at 8:00 PM.
