KKÖ 1st Excursion: Toothwort in bloom in the mountain forest near Wangen

### 1st Hike: ** Toothwort in bloom in the mountain forest near Wangen** **Sunday, May 10 | 11:00 a.m. Meeting point: Forest parking lot on K6156 Wangen-Schienen in front of the Ziegelhof Duration: 2–3 hours, distance: 3–5 km. **Led by Prof. Dr. Manfred Rösch ** **Please register at least 24 hours in advance ** at Manfred-Roesch@t-online.de. A minimum of 3 participants is required! In the beech forests on the southern slope of the Schienerberg northeast of Wangen, two forest floor plants can be found that belong to the geophytes and bloom in spring: the feather-leaved toothwort (*Dentaria heptaphylla*) and the finger-leaved toothwort (Dentaria pentaphylla), from the cruciferous family and related to the meadow cuckoo flower. Both have a western Pre-Alpine distribution. The feather-leaved toothwort is found scattered across the Schienerberg, mostly along the edges of paths, whereas the finger-leaved toothwort forms purple carpets on the forest floor during flowering season. Both are very rare throughout Germany, but fortunately their populations are not endangered.
