Every chocolate bar becomes a taste event today, the janitor becomes the facility manager, and Heinz Günter wonders, in his striped shirt and beret, why no one in Paris thinks he is a Jean-Pierre. Packaging isn’t everything. Lucy van Kuhl knows this — and still packages masterfully: In her fifth program, absurd observations are wrapped in piano sounds, peripheral observations are poetically magnified, and the drabness of a nursing home turns into an exhilarating over-80 party. Gentle melancholy meets raucous nonsense. Very cleverly packaged.
