Mining live & real: Nowhere else in Europe is there a pure visitor mine in iron ore with a ride in the shaft lift down, with a mine train and machine demonstrations - a unique experience!

The Mine Tour underground (Duration: 1 hour) led by knowledgeable mine guides shows the technology and workflows in the former iron ore mine. After a short walk through the tunnel, the lift can take max. 21 people at a time through the machine shaft to the 150-meter level. With the original mine train, visitors can further access the former extraction areas of the so-called North Storage. Here, drilling hammers blast into the red iron ore, and electrically or pneumatically operated loading machines start moving noisily. We will demonstrate several authentic machines live!

At this depth, there is constant 13° Celsius, high humidity, dust-free conditions, and complete isolation from everyday noise - just this is a relaxing experience! And then hear the noise that miners worked under in the past.

Included in the admission price is a visit to the surface facilities: Mining Museum with the washroom in the mine building and the machine house with the powerful hoisting machine in the upper mine yard. Don’t miss the chance to watch our machinist operating the original hoisting machine! Here you can see how other guests ride the lift into or out of the mine.

PS: We, as a non-profit, non-profit-making organization, are the operators of the Fortuna Mine, a real mine for visitor operations. Compared to other museum facilities, we have very high operating costs (for 1 visitor, 4 employees are deployed, and the cable ride under mining supervision requires a high level of technical and inspection effort) and are only supported by a fixed amount from the public sector, which does not cover the expenses by far. We rely on revenue from tickets, the museum shop, and donations, and we manage to break even thanks to the commitment of many volunteers. Now we hope to preserve the mine as a living monument of industrial culture and mining history despite all the sales losses of recent years, and we look forward to your visit.
