Brazil, a country of great internal tensions: The spectrum ranges from
Stefan Zweig's “Land of the Future” (written in exile in 1940) to
Geovani Martins, who as a child of the favelas depicts in his short story collection “Sol”
the merciless harshness of life on the streets.
The program leads through the diverse neighborhoods of Rio and offers at the same time a
cross-section of Brazilian literature as well as the
musical diversity of the country. Texts by Jorge Amado, José Paulo
Paes, and Geovani Martins meet the music of the legendary Bossa
Nova artist Antônio Carlos Jobim, the Brazilian Choro
and the compositions of Egberto Gismonti.
The music of Samba, Bossa Nova, and Choro will be performed by Axel
Grote (saxophone, flute), Sebastian Kling (piano), Florian Werther
(double bass), and Axel Pape (drums). The texts and
songs will be presented sensitively by Nathalie Hoyer, conveying
a vivid picture of Brazilian liveliness.
Participants: Nathalie Hoyer (recitation and vocals), Axel Grote (saxophone, flute), Sebastian Kling (piano, accordion), Florian Werther (double bass), and Axel Pape (drums).
