Ida Nielsen & The Funkbots

Simple language: Ida Nielsen plays bass and sings. She used to tour with Prince. Ida Nielsen & The Funkbots make funk music.

Ida Nielsen's life was turned upside down when music legend Prince discovered her in August 2010. Shortly thereafter, she joined his band and toured with him and "The New Power Generation," later with the four-member power rock band "3rdeyegirl." Ida was part of his bands from 2010 until his early death in April 2016. She describes playing with Prince as "a great gift and the most magical musical journey of all time, an ongoing learning experience that surpasses all imagination."

After the years with Prince, Ida began to focus again on her solo career.
Since 2016, she has been regularly releasing music and has greatly expanded her touring plans. Her music can best be described as a mix of old-school funk and hip-hop with world music influences, catchy melodies, and lots of bass. Together with her band "The Funkbots," she delivers an energetic funk show full of good vibes, tight grooves, and subtle references to her former employer and mentor Prince.
Ida was voted into the top 10 bassists worldwide in the annual Music Radar survey in 2019 (along with her colleagues Stanley Clarke and Victor Wooten).
