Against the impressive backdrop of the over 1,000-year-old Mainz Cathedral of St. Martin, the marketplace shines in a sea of lights, scents, and festive music during the Advent season. The entire magic of the Christmas city of Mainz unfolds amidst the lovingly decorated stalls. Right at the main entrance of the market, the eleven-meter-high, richly adorned Christmas pyramid rises up, enchanting visitors from afar. Just a few steps further, the hand-carved, life-sized nativity figures in front of the Gotthard Chapel of the cathedral impress. The colorful Renaissance facades of the historic market houses add a very special flair to the market. A carousel, handmade toys, and the nine-meter-high music box with its 18 carved angel figures make not only children's eyes sparkle.
