To mark the 200th anniversary of F. Weinbrenner’s death, the Staatliche Kunsthalle is presenting a studio exhibition. Around 50 drawings from the Kupferstichkabinett illustrate his creative thinking—from sketches of antiquity to designs for iconic buildings in Karlsruhe. #### Classically Contemporary The work of Karlsruhe architect Friedrich Weinbrenner (1766–1826) continues to shape the cityscape of Karlsruhe to this day. To mark the 200th anniversary of his death, the Staatliche Kunsthalle Karlsruhe is dedicating a studio exhibition to him featuring selected works from the Kupferstichkabinett. Around 50 drawings showcase his creative thinking—from a time before digital visualizations—as well as the sources of inspiration for his neoclassical architecture in Italy—ranging from sketches of ancient buildings to visionary designs and precise plans for significant structures such as the Margrave’s Palace and the Court Theater. It also brings buildings that no longer exist to life and allows visitors to rediscover the spirit of innovation that swept through architecture around 1800. In cooperation with Prof. Dr.-Ing.
