Donsbacher Wildlife Park opens its gates for Family Day
This year's Family Day at the Donsbach Wildlife Park on Sunday, May 31, will again feature numerous performers waiting for many visitors. Families, in particular, are warmly invited to participate in the colorful activities at the Donsbach Wildlife Park from 11.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m.
Donsbach Fire Department presents Multicopter
This year, the Donsbach Fire Department will be on site with its drone vehicle. The multicopters, colloquially referred to as drones, assist the incident commander in searching the scene during complex situations. With the help of thermal imaging cameras, missing persons can be located even in dense forest areas. After building fires, the thermal imaging camera can also be used to identify hotspots. The multicopters are stationed in the Donsbach district. If needed, they will be deployed throughout the city and transported to the scene with the command vehicle. The team of the Donsbach Fire Department is happy to answer any questions regarding this.
Learn Casting with the Sport Fishers
Right next door, hobby anglers and those wishing to become one can visit the Sportfishing Club 1942 Dillenburg e.V. Interested individuals can try out “casting” on site. With fishing rods, participants aim at a large target on the ground – just like throwing bait. “Casting” not only helps one become a better angler but has also been an independent competitive sport since 1864.
Experience Rescue Dogs Up Close
The Dillenburg Rescue Dog Squad of the German Red Cross offers exciting insights into their work. Experience live how the dogs are trained and how they go on searches for missing persons with their handlers. Watch the rescuers work and take the opportunity to ask questions and meet the teams on site.
Wild Cats in Hesse
Meet Germany's small tiger at the BUND booth, which will kick off with a colorful program for families. For the topic “Forests of Wild Cats of Tomorrow,” fun games and a crafting station will be offered. “Is the wildcat a runaway house cat?” or “Does it live in our forests?” – Questions like these will surely be answered at the BUND booth.
Wood as Raw and Working Material
Get to know HessenForst, one of the largest forestry operations in Central Europe. Foresters and employees from the Herborn Forestry Office provide insights into the world of forests and the raw material wood. Experience wood through crafting, puzzling, and at the burning station. Additionally, children can explore the forest with small forest games. Nature to touch, participate in, and marvel at.
Learning Place Nature
With their Learning Place Nature trailer, the Dillkreis Hunters e.V. once again offer insights into the diverse responsibilities of hunters, the native wildlife, and species protection, such as in fawn rescue. There will also be the opportunity to join free guided tours on site, which are offered at 12.00 p.m., 2.00 p.m., and 4.00 p.m., starting directly at the info booth across from the large nature playground.
Kids Fun
In addition to getting to know the various animals in the park, which are also happy to be petted, there is a bouncy castle waiting for many little guests. Those who wish can transform into magical mythical creatures or wild tigers at the face painting station or craft wild animals with the team from the Children’s Culture Center KIKUZ e.V. from Dillenburg. Meanwhile, parents can learn about the work of the association.
Support the Wildlife Park
Anyone wishing to support the wildlife park, whether through a donation, a sponsorship, or a membership in the support association, is warmly welcome to visit the info booth of the Friends of Dillenburg-Donsbach Wildlife Park e.V. The popular fortune wheel with main and consolation prizes is set up there, and the sought-after button machine is also back in operation.
Food and Drink
The Wildlife Park Stuben also invite you, as always, to linger comfortably. The wildlife park's gastronome, Holger Andermann, has prepared another special highlight for beer enthusiasts with a beer tasting in collaboration with Edeka Rein. As another culinary offer, the Budenberg School from Haiger, a cooperation partner of the Donsbach Wildlife Park, will offer freshly baked waffles and present the school's work at an info booth.
Sufficient parking is available at the community center in Donsbach, Rudolf-Braas-Straße 1, 35686 Dillenburg-Donsbach free of charge.
For this year's Family Day, the regular admission prices, unlike previous years, will apply.
The Donsbach Wildlife Park is open year-round: March to October from 10.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m., November to February from 10.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m., and in the Hesse summer holidays until 7.00 p.m. Last admission is always one hour before closing.
