Hiking
Look forward to a diverse and unforgettable llama and alpaca hike in a team! Enjoy time outdoors, far from the desk and the daily routine. Experience nature together with the fluffy llamas and alpacas that you will lead in pairs. Even if you usually have little contact with animals: You will surely quickly grow fond of the peaceful and curious animals with their big, round eyes. Llamas and alpacas are very easy to lead, as they are herd animals. So you will have plenty of time during the hike (and of course during breaks) to chat and enjoy the day.
Your tour starts and ends right below the ruins of Schönecken Castle on the pasture of the Eifelnomads. After a brief introduction where you will get to know the llamas and alpacas and learn how to lead such an animal, you will set off with your guide for your hike in the nature reserve.
The Schönecker Schweiz is a little-known, but incredibly diverse nature reserve in the southern Eifel. It is characterized by deeply cut valleys with clear streams and wide plateaus. Rare orchids bloom and slender junipers grow on the valley slopes. Its name, by the way, comes from the gentian that grows here just like in the Alps. In the beech forests, the ground in spring is a carpet of blooming March cups and wild garlic. In summer, the broom shines brightly. Narrow hiking paths wind through the area, where you rarely encounter other people.
Right at the beginning, we hike down into the valley of the Altburgbach stream. Orchard meadows and the slender silhouettes of juniper bushes accompany us. Then we climb the ridge "Op Ischt" and enjoy the wide views on the plateau. Later, we dive into the beech forest and reach a hidden clearing where we take our first break. Above the Schalkenbach stream, we continue through the forest on narrow paths. Finally, we arrive at the ancient Celtic refuge fortress that majestically sits on steep rocks above the Altburgbach stream. Here we take another short rest and have plenty of time to take photos with the llamas. Then we need to make our way back down into the valley via a narrow path from the rock spur. Following the Altburgbach stream, we return to our starting point after about four hours.
