Alpaka- und Lamawanderung mit Gin-Tasting

Hike

Our unique event starts and ends right below the castle ruins of Schönecken on the pasture of the Eifelnomads. After a brief introduction where you will meet the llamas and alpacas and learn how to lead such an animal, we will set off together with our knowledgeable guide on our hike.

Our hiking route takes us right into the nature reserve of Schönecker Schweiz. Here, junipers and spruces, hazels, rowans, and gorse grow. Thorny blackthorn and gnarled apple trees stand in the untouched meadows, with moss and ivy entwining old oaks: all plants whose aromas are found in Eifel gin. Enjoyably and entertainingly, you will learn about the habitat and the diverse uses of our native flora.

After crossing the Altburgtal, we climb the southern slopes of the valley, where the slender juniper with its dark green, spiky leaves and deep blue berries makes a striking accent. We continue on to the Op Ischt plateau. Here, on dry ground, powerful spruces and larches stretch their bizarrely twisted branches towards the sky.

We soon immerse ourselves in a beech forest. Moss grows on the shaded sides of the smooth beechtrees. Some trees are entwined with lush ivy. On a small clearing, we take a break and enjoy the tranquility in the midst of nature.

Passing a clearing where besides hazel, the "Eifel gold" (gorse) has settled, we head back towards the pasture. With a bit of luck, we might find some of the dark blue shimmering berries on the blackthorns along the way, or an apple on one of the traditional orchards.

At our open stall, we are welcomed by Stephan Thomé, the owner and distiller of the award-winning distillery Euelsberger, with his delicious Eifel gin. The distiller shares his first ideas, the creation and development of Euelsberger, explains the production process, and introduces us to the flavor world of Eifel gin. Enjoy the typical Eifel flavors of the gin and strengthen yourself with delicious regional specialties, while around you the llamas and alpacas indulge in their well-deserved hay or graze on the pasture.

If the weather doesn't cooperate, we will move the tasting into our open stall or our comfortably furnished trailer.

Included: approximately two and a half hour lama and alpaca hike with short breaks
Gin tasting with Stephan Thomé, the owner of the gin distillery Euelsberger
Pure Gin No. 4 and with the appropriate tonic
Finger food with regional specialties, water, and snacks
German and English speaking guide
per llama handler, a maximum of one accompanying person or child can be added

To bring: hiking shoes (depending on the route; sturdy, profiled sole is advantageous), day backpack, water bottle with water, suitable clothing, possibly headgear (depending on the season for sun, rain, or cold)

Participants: at least 6 people; a maximum of about 14 people

Requirements: average fitness (total distance approx. 7 km, pure hiking time about 2 hours, elevation difference 140 m) Dogs unfortunately cannot be brought along.
