Once again, in the year 2026, the city of Obermoschel will hold its medieval spectacle on the second weekend of June.
On June 13th and 14th, the popular event will take place for the 25th time at the ruins of Moschellandsburg. This castle stands high above the smallest town in the Palatinate on a rocky spur and offers a spectacular view of the Northern Palatinate hills.
From the visitor parking lots, which are located directly below the castle, guests first reach the camp of the traveling medieval groups. There, they will encounter early medieval Vikings and Slavs, Crusaders and pilgrims, as well as high medieval knights in impressive plate armor. Visitors will gain insights into medieval life, crafts, and the art of war. Those who wish can try their hand at archery or watch the high medieval cannoniers demonstrate their handling of hand cannons and cannons at specific times. Also worth seeing are the regular weapon drills and the field battle that takes place in the afternoons on both days.
Another highlight has now become the archery tournament, which is always held on Saturdays and in which anyone with a historical longbow can participate.
For the children, there is a treasure hunt, with solution letters spread across the entire market area. Those who uncover the solution word will be rewarded with a small prize.
After thoroughly exploring the camp, visitors can make their way to the main castle. Traders and merchants from near and far offer their goods and showcase traditional crafts. But be careful, terrible orcs are also on the castle grounds and are up to their rough pranks!
For those seeking relaxation, there is a body kneader who has already helped many sore backs.
In the shade of the old lime tree, one can finally relax in the castle courtyard and enjoy the program on stage, presented by Junker Jörg. Besides the juggler “Flobold” and the singer “Solaria,” the musicians from “Trio cum Laute” and “Ranunculus” can also be heard.
For quiet moments, “Regilau” provides soothing tunes with her harp, and in a cozy corner, “Chnutz vom Hopfen” tells stories from around the world to his listeners.
To combat hunger and thirst, several vendors and the castle tavern are ready. Cool beer and wine, sodas and juices await, and depending on appetite, there are tarte flambée, langos, pulled pork, or soups in bread dough. For those with a sweet tooth, Transylvanian Baumstrietzel or homemade cakes are available. On Saturday evening, at dusk, the fire breathers and dancers of the group “Feuerplanet” showcase their great skill with fire, captivating the guests once again.
There are plenty of parking spaces available below the castle.
For weekend guests with motorhomes/caravan combinations, a limited number of parking spaces are available (booking via hajuruppert@gmx.de).
