Hidden and locked rooms in the Trier Cathedral
The Trier Cathedral and its cloister – a place where 1700 years of architectural and faith history comfortably reside among arcades and capitals. The result? Plenty of fine details to discover:
Besides the famous cathedral mice, other animals peek out from the ornaments. Faces have been immortalized on the keystones, some familiar, others with a wink. Those who explore with curiosity will find not only art here but also little moments to smile about – and many answers to the question of why the cathedral is part of the UNESCO World Heritage. There are also some rooms in the cathedral and cloister that elude a first glance, such as the Gothic Hall and the Savigny Chapel. Join us on a discovery tour of the unknown rooms, take a look behind otherwise locked doors and find out what the famous "Grumbling Chair" is all about.
