The internationally successful musician Till Brönner brings the elegance and sophistication of jazz to Trier's most impressive landmark. Where Trier has been known since antiquity as "Roma secunda," or the second Rome, the musician resurrects the atmosphere of modern Rome from the 1970s.
If only it were always so simple: A fairy enchants the overall rather joyless life of Mr. Rossi and gives him a whistle with which he can travel through space and time. He does not find his peace of mind along the way, but with the title song "Viva La Felicità" Franco Godi created a jazz song that is still well-known today, which Till Brönner re-records on his latest album "Italia" – and of course enhances with his characteristic trumpet sound.
This has made the 54-year-old one of Europe's most famous and successful jazz musicians. His albums have been awarded multiple gold and platinum awards, he has sold over a million records, and he was nominated for a Grammy. As the only German jazz musician to date, he has been invited to perform at the White House. For his ITALIA tour, Brönner has classics by Lucio Battisti, Paolo Conte, and Tony Renis in tow, as well as iconic film music by Ennio Morricone, Piero Piccioni, and Franco Micalizzi, along with rarities from Italian pop history. A repertoire that cries out to be brought live to the stage, as it brings back the spirit of a very special time. A time when music mirrored the hope for a better future and pop was allowed to be light-hearted while also not skimping on the complexity and depth of life: “Italy provided a kind of European sound and created an atmosphere that was groundbreaking for an entire generation,” explains Brönner, promising some surprises among the well-known Italo hits from a mainly German perspective. Thus, his performance in front of the Porta will not only be a tribute to the Italian pop culture of the 60s to early 80s but also an emotional journey back to Brönner's own childhood, which he spent largely in Rome. Therefore, the chances are good that the "second Rome" will captivate Till Brönner as well – and offers him happiness without a whistle. In the end, this is certainly something that can be shared with all the listeners on the Porta Nigra square.
