Kurt Tucholsky, the probably most significant German satirist and journalist of the 20th century, had a great love: his gramophone! This love is shared by the Frankfurt cabaret artist and shellac record collector Jo van Nelsen, who this evening listens to the sound of the twenties in Tucholsky's texts and songs. With shellac records straight from the gramophone and live-sung Tucholsky chansons, Jo van Nelsen immerses the audience in a time 100 years ago, which frighteningly resembles our own, and reminds us of long-forgotten artists like Claire Waldoff, Richard Tauber, Jack Smith, and others.
